Based in Seattle, Michelle Williams designs hauntingly beautiful ceramics.
After years of making sculpture in other media, Michelle returned to ceramics in 2010 and unearthed her passion for the medium. With a background in studio arts and art history, she translates her exposure to art-making and criticism to a well-defined point of view in her work. Each object's form is its focal element, rather than drawing its identity from surface decoration.
Working largely with New Zealand porcelain to create the whitest, smoothest and most translucent work, Michelle uses a process of throwing, trimming, and sanding repeatedly to create her ethereal pieces. Her work is refined, yet still captures a handmade quality.
