Meet your maker: LthrwD
LthrwD is the handmade brand from Renato Batalla. Handcut, hand stitched leather goods with a traditional styling that highlights the materials used and the product's utility. Launched in January 2012, LthrwD's inspiration was organic. When his own wallet began falling apart after only a few months of use, Renato wondered whether he could make a better product himself. He visited a local leather shop to pick out materials and tools, then got to work.
My first product was a simple card holder. 2 pieces of rectangle shaped leather sewn together on 3 sides using the traditional saddle stitch with an awl, needle, and thread. The stitching was so crooked, but it was a great learning experience!
Renato shares our commitment to American made goods, and uses domestic suppliers for most of his materials. Leather is sourced from Horween Chromexcel Leather in Chicago and Herman Oak Leather in St. Louis. The waxed thread used to sew his wallets and accessories comes from the Maine Thread Company in Lewiston, Maine.
As a child Renato was a tinkerer - taking apart electronics, building models. His interest in design came from a desire to know how and why objects were designed as they were. With an emphasis on durable materials and tested construction methods, Renato builds his products to last. In contrast to brands that sacrifice quality for quantity, LthrwD products are made to be cherished, not replaced.
Over time the line's products have stayed consistent. Evolution has been in the quality of construction as Renato himself has become more skilled and uncovered techniques to improve his cut and sew process. Pick out a piece from the LthrwD line today and save 15% with the coupon code SOCAL.
