Over the next week, we’re running a contest to win one of our lucky horseshoe necklaces. This got us thinking: who decided that a horseshoe was lucky in the first place?

As it turns out, the exact origin of how the horseshoe came to be associated with good luck is pretty murky. The most likely story traces back to the 10th century and the Legend of St. Dunstan. While there are several versions of this story, the tale goes something like this.

Before he became a saint, Dunstan was a blacksmith. By some means, Dunstan was able to affix a horseshoe to one of the Devil’s hooves. The horseshoe caused the Devil so much pain that he made a deal with Dunstan. If Dunstan would remove the shoe, the Devil would never enter a house with a horseshoe over the door. And since then the horseshoe has been considered a lucky charm.

So if you’re in need of a bit of good fortune, try your luck by entering our contest. Or get lucky now with 10% off on any horseshoe necklace. Just enter LUCKY at checkout.
